Director "Kunthi thoppu Gopal" briefed about the title in the press meet. He said that 'Suyyan' means Surya mari illa nalum atleast Jayasuriya mari irukkum vaaliban. It can also mean, said the director, the smile of a sun. “So I think our Lion is apt for the title role.”
Dhottabetta Gaja, who writes the lyrics for all the songs, told that 'Suyyan' in Tamil denotes the person who is like a male lion. He also quoted a couple of lines from a song penned by him for the movie and attributed the lines to Lion and AVM.
